We aim to end the deportations of Southeast Asian refugees and fight for the unification of Southeast Asian families in New York and throughout the Northeast region.

Our Community’s Story

Today, more than 2.7 million Southeast Asians live in the U.S. Since 1998, more than 16,000 Southeast Asians from Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos have been issued orders of deportation under the U.S.’s anti-immigrant policies, with many initially arriving in this country as children through the U.S.’s largest refugee resettlement program.

Our Strategies

The Southeast Asian Defense Project aims to fight the deportations of Southeast Asian refugees through the combined strategies of local and state advocacy, legal support, and community organizing and education. By highlighting the unique experience of the Southeast Asian refugee community, ensuring access to critical legal resources, and mobilizing the community, the Southeast Asian Defense Project provides a comprehensive approach towards keeping Southeast Asian families united.
